EvDO Service to Start In Chennai Soon?
about Views on 30/03/2008 - like it?

while surfing through Chennai telephones site, I came across an interesting web page: http://chennai.bsnl.co.in/News/EVDO.htm This is indeed good news for me, and for those people who can’t just go for a wired connection now(read my reason as to why i cant get a wired connection here). While a web page announcement is a good thing, whether it’ll change the ground reality – that of lack on information among BSNl employees about EVDo, anytime soon will remain to be seen. I’ve previously blogged about my hassles in trying to obtain *information* about an EVDO connection. Let’s hope this time around I get better news and feedback. I will keep you guys informed about happenings as and when I get the latest updates

I don’t get it how is it unlimited for 500 bucks that also with supposed speed of 2.4 mbps.

The theoretical speed is 2.4Mbps, practically people are getting about 1000 Kbps. Why BSNL would give that out? I don’t know. Beats me. But it is a very good deal.

I would ditch my broadband the day they start this service. Really this would definitely be an awesome service.

^ Yeah indeed. Right now I’m relying on a crappy Airtel EDGE data card/USB modem, in which speeds are pathetic. This is indeed very good news to me. You can get newest information on BSNL EVDO at http://bsnlevdo.themebin.com We(ie, site admin, and me, I’m a Supermod at the forum and writer at the blog) are currently upgrading the CMS. Do drop by the forums

I bet that it’s “up to” 2.5Mbps. That way they can get away if they fail to provide 2.5Mbps.

And anyway, how can they provide such speeds wirelessly when their broadband connection itself is capped at 2Mbps?

@Santosh It’s not upto 2.4Mbps, the theoretical maximum for EVDO is 2.4Mbps.

@santhoshgs
Well EV-DO is the 3G of CDMA technology. This way it provides 2.4mbps on that device. The EV-DO device is supposed to be capable of even voice calls and SMSes though no one knows how to use that. I guess India atleast got some kind of 3G.

it’s cheap ’cause they use shared ip, which means that torrent, rapidshare and other things like that wont work…
