Cisco VPN Client for Windows Vista / Windows 7 64-bit

I’ve been looking for a reliable VPN client, one which works well on Windows Vista / Windows 7 and especially one which can connect to a IPsec’d Cisco VPN.

Of course there’s Cisco’s default VPN client but the one given to me is a crappy old 4.6 version, and works only on Windows XP. Tried to get the AnyConnect version, but after PITA registration and deep digging into a hopelessly unnavigable site, found that I cannot download it using a “standard” registration account :-\

Anyhow, I’ve been using ShrewSoft’s VPN Client for now, its pretty neat,  user  friendly(well, unless you’re trying to create a new connection anyway) , works great and can import Cisco’s pcf profile files as well, saving you the trouble of having break your head in configuring one.

So, go grab it now!

(PS: Haven’t yet tested the Linux version, will post on my Linux blog after trying it out)

Update: Swaroop just informed me about Cisco’s WebVPN. Neat stuff, but requires additional config from Net Admins.

A look at Reliance WiMAX (Broadnet ) Internet Connection

Been a while since last wrote a review so I’m a bit rusty 🙂

Previously, I depended a lot on the crappy Airtel data card. In course of time things happened, ( which is not relevant to the review 😉 ) and I shifted to a new place. This place had a pre-existing Reliance WiMax connection, so I really cannot comment on the installation charges and support.

Convert Your Windows XP/Vista ordinary taskbar into Windows 7 Superbar and Get AeroPeek in Windows XP & Vista

I’ve been trying out Windows 7 RC on my personal laptop for about 2 weeks now – and I’ve been very impressed with Windows 7 (I’ll leave my Windows 7 impressions for another blogpost). One of the best liked features about Windows 7, for me is AeroPeek. Essentially AeroPeek groups all similar Windows into one, and as you hover your mouse over it, It displays all windows open so that you can quickly switch over to it. The picture below will give a good idea of AeroPeek.

Got a new mouse – Logitech v450 Nano (mini) Review

Well not a “rodent” mouse, but a mouse, mouse. You know the computer peripheral 😛 Well my previous mouse (which, by the way was a contender for The Lamest Mouse award™ had almost died – the left clicks weren’t registering, the cord was getting all tangled up – and decided to go for a new mouse. Thought I’ll get a wireless one, and what the heck a Laser wireless one. After a bit of searching – this is what I got

[How-To] Organize Your Music Files and Tag Them Automatically

I’m a music buff.Music surrounds me all time time, whether its listening to it from my laptop or from my P1i. My music collection though isn’t as large as some other people’s, regardless I’d like to keep it organized. While re-organizing my music files, I realized that a huge chunk of my files were badly tagged, and erroneously named. So I set about searching for a software which can automatically tag and rename my files, and I found MusicBrainz Picard Tagger.

After BSNL, Tata Teleservices Rolls Out Their EVDO Service In Chennai

Nearly 3 months after BSNL had introduced their EVDO(aka mobile/wireless broadband) Tata Teleservices has launched the Photon – their version of the EVDO service.

For the unknown, EVDO is an acronym for Evolution-Data Optimized, which is a CDMA revision which allows for data transfer rates of upto 2.4 Mbps. Before you run out of your house to get a connection, do note that as of now the service is launched only in SELECT, sub urban areas of Chennai.

My Laptop Gets An Attack!

A virus attack that is. After more than 8 months of virus-free computing(without using a Anti-Virus too, I might add) my laptop finally bit the bug(so to speak). It happened day-before yesterday, oddly seems to have triggered off after installation of Windows Media Player 11(Santosh was praising it, so I thought I’ll check it out). Downloaded it, got it WGA’d(yes my Windows XP SP2 is Genuine, OEM) and installed. First signs of trouble was when Windows Explorer kept throwing Data Execution Prevention Errors(DEP) while browsing through my Music partition. Then WMP11 kept crashing when trying to add my Audio collection(roughly about 7.65 GB).
