If you’re a regular reader ( and not reading this in a feed reader) you would have obviously noted a change in appearance of my blog. – It’s been a while since I last refreshed my blog . My World had been running on the absolutely gorgeous (well, IMO anyways) SoDelicious2 theme. I even had a mini “contest” to decide who would get the spots for the gallery links. So why the change then ?

Well nothing in particular, just that you know, you have to keep things changing (OK not *that* much) to it look fresh. I’d been planning for a theme change for a bit now, but was too lazy to scope out which would be good. And then just yesterday I stumbled onto Theo Jones’ blog and was just blown away by his theme. And the best part was that he had released it for all, and integrates well with the social networks I frequent on (well, except that the last.fm records plugin is *slightly* broken but doesn’t affect the blog looks at all).

What I really liked about the theme was that it was clean, I mean realy *crispy* clean, no distractions, no annoying popups or ads ( yeah I got rid of InfoLinks and AdSense – which didn’t do much and I didn’t bother about anyway). Surprisingly, the lack of a sidebar didn’t bother me – I generally stuff up the sidebar with *ahem* goodies but.. yeah I guess I fell for the clean look. I’d prolly do ever-so-slight changes (for one, rename that, err, “Rotating block” to something else). Probably add few of my links, and a blogroll to the end as well. Though I’ve received fairly OK response over twitter & fb on the theme (most of it being – its way too clean/looks like a newspaper) but what the heck – I’m gonna use this theme for a bit.

I’m not sure how exactly this conversation came about but @prolificd casually tweeted me, asking me If I’d heard of savemylanguage.org I replied no, and checked it – and it turned out to be an awesome site.

Its got quite a lot of articles, a wordlist of Konkani words in Devnagiri script, with meanings in English, and also an English To Konkani and Konkani to English translator. Unfortunately the translator didn’t quite work, even for a relatively simple ‘how are you doing’ phrase. Regardless, its quite a good site, and you can even submit a Konkani word which is not there in the word list.

I’ve finally done it. Been contemplating it for a while, but past couple of days’ turn of events have made me do what I’ve been contemplating about. What am I writing about? My tumblelog of course!

I get lots, I mean LOTS of email forwards. Those subscribed to my forwards mailing list would say I send lots of forwards. But then I forward only the best of the lot, and that’s like maybe 10% of what I get. But then couple of days ago, my office NT user account (and not just mail account) was disabled by the mail network admin, citing “Mail misuse” After running from pillar to post, getting approval mails from group head, phone calls to the network admin, apologizing and three-quarters of a day lost productivity, was finally able to get my NT account re-enabled, and me decided not forward anymore. But still I wanted to share those forwards. I’ve been trying WordPress’s blog-by-email feature, but was unable to get it running on my Google Apps’ mail id. 

Tumblr seemed a nice way of sharing these forwards, and though I’d signed up for tumblr couple of weeks back, I’d never used it. So I decided to wipe off the dust, and launch it! The result -> Ta daah! Sathya’s Tumbles (yeah I know corny name, but WTH). I’m still waiting for the A records propogation to be through, and once that is done, my tumblelog will be available at http://tumble.sathyabh.at/. I’ve also enabled Disqus comments for my Tumblelog, so feel free to comment [on a side note, I'm seriously considering integrating Disqus with my WordPress blogs]. There’s also a “read-only” mode of my tumblelog at http://sathyabh.at/tumblelog which just displays my tumblelog posts, adapting my blog CSS, which looks neat

Next – Barcamp Bangalore 7 is here! Though I won’t be able to attend day 1 of Barcamp Bangalore due to clash with my working days, I will be there for day 2. I’m really excited to attend, since this will be the first ever Barcamp that I’m gonna attend. I’ve signed up as Volunteer over there, will be blogging and obviosuly tweeting about it as well. Looking forward to meeting Santosh(@9_6), Laxman(@scorpion032), Ashwin(@cruisemaniac), Prashanth(@hnprashanth), Ashish(@mataal) and LOT more of tweeters! So see you all there! 

And just as I was about to leave from office, I was chatting with Kunal Sheth over GTalk and he told me that he’s going to be in Bangalore on Monday, so that just about about made my day – I do hope Kunal can spare some time and we could catchup – it’ll be awesome if we could.

Well yesterday twitter was buzzing about rumours of a PageRank update yesterday, and voila! It did happen! My World, which was PR0 till now jumped up to PR3. My Linux blog, Sathya Says, also gets increment to PR4 from PR3.

On a related note, while trying to find a site which does a PageRank check for multiple sites I remembered that Sumeet has a site up and running which does the same – checks PageRank of multiple URL’s. In addition to checking PageRanks of multiple sites, you can also save and export the results as CSV for, say later reviewing purposes. So do check out Mass PageRankChecker

Couple weeks ago I’d changed my theme to sodelicious2 and that put me in a spot of bother, as there was a gallery-which showed some pics and each were linked to, and was wondering what to do with them. Manan suggested that I could show off my gadgets, but then again, apart from my P1i, Inspiron 1520 and the HBH DS 970, don’t have anything else. Ashwin came up with the idea of posting blog pics of highest commenters  here, liked it and so I’m gonna implement it!

Was wondering how to find the highest commenters, since I know a little bit of SQL I came up with a short query and here are the “results”:
