Weekly Notes 29/2026
Week 29 summary - new swim instructor, exploring Central Coast & more.
What's been happening
It's been another pleasant week. My usual swimming instructor was on a holiday so I had a different instructor. She had a different way of teaching which was nice, was more on the theory of why you should be doing in a particular way - for example, my usual instructor would always say tuck your chin in and look down, while this week's instructor not only told this but also showed why. That was good - built a lot more confidence. Not sure if she'll be around for next week's class - we'll have to see.
The week's workouts went much better. We're back to doing full back squats - for now higher volume as well. I've also started looking at some gyms closer home to switch to - we've been at the current gym for close to two years now and has been an absolutely amazing experience. We're looking to switch to something closer to home - the current one is an hour away and is tied to us being in the office. I've sent out an enquiry to a gym that's not too far away and next to the Metro station, if all goes well we should be trying out a session this Friday.
Work's been good - though this week we've had a few people departing the org. I've worked with them a fair bit over the past 4 years so will definitely miss them. Apart from that, I spent a bit of time preparing the slides for my upcoming talk(internal only though). I thought of using ye ol' PowerPoint but then Rushabh asked me how's slidev been. I've been using slidev for a while to prepare my slides but it's been a minute since I last had to prepare a deck. This was a good time to give it a try again, and I figured it would be better since slidev slides are in Markdown - something that LLMs love. I'm happy to report slidev is still pretty good. It was good experience to build slides - especially since I could say "get this data from here" and it'd fetch, parse and format the data in the right format. I still had to do a fair bit of clean up, especially of the slop-isms that plague a lot of the generated text. Still, pretty happy with the slides.
On Thursday evening, we drove over to Richmond as part of what seems to be a developing ritual of a Thursday evening drive. It was raining and there wasn't much to do, so it was a nice long drive. While returning, we passed by an Indian store and stopped by to pick up snacks - and happy to have found some rotti for Kori Rotti. Some delicious kori rotti will be on the cards soon.

The Rotti for Kori Rotti and Jo playing some of her loved tracks.
On Friday, we finally got time to make use of the griddle we had picked up for the Weber Q. The first thing we made on it - of course, was dosa. It came out pretty well! Jo was happy the griddle doesn't take too long to heatup (~about 10 mins) and can take out dosas pretty fast.

I lookfward to making some fried eggs/bacon/toast on it -.
On Saturday, we decided to make a day trip to the Central Coast. We went to Terrigal, stopping by Gosford and Green Point en route. Why these places? Well, I have a teammate who lives in Green Point (hi Mike!) and thought would be nice to say hi. We stopped by at a Lifeline Op Shop in Gosford to see if there's something nice that's available - and Jo did find a nice fruit & veggies tray that we brought back. Mike also suggested some tips on where to stop by and park in Terrigal, and with those tips, we drove over to Terrigal. We did a nice easy way around The Skillion, catching some amazing views of the ocean. We also spotted a few whale watchers who were unsuccessful in spotting the large mammals. By now, it was late lunch time, so we went over to Wamberal as there wasn't any place available in Terrigal to park the car. We found a small cafe called Sal & Co and went there for lunch. We had burgers and a scoop of sweet potato fries. The food was delicious and happy with the choice of our cafe.

Walking around Terrigal
Post lunch, we were feeling pretty full and still hadn't completed the Terrigal boardwalk walk, so we decided head back towards Terrigal, find parking and do another small walk by the boardwalk and beachfront. Though not summer and Terrigal being a beach town, it was quite packed. Wonder how it will be during summertime. Anyhow, we were blessed with good weather during our walks - it wasn't too hot, neigher did it rain, so overall a good trip. While returning, we stopped by Berowra to visit another friend who we hadn't met in a long time.

Terrigal Boardwalk & the return
On Sunday morning, we returned back to Jonas Bradley Reserve and did a small walk around the oval. We stopped by for some brunch at a coffee shop, had some coffee, bought some groceries and returned back home for a relaxing Sunday.
