It’d been a while since Jo and I had gone for a day trip on the outskirts of Bangalore. Jo on a whim suggested going for a long drive. And since I had nothing else planned, we took the car out. Originally we planned to head out to Kanakapura and come back, but that plan changed soon. We started out fairly late, at about 09:15 in the morning and stopped for breakfast at MTR on Kanakapura Road, near Art of Living Ashram.
Starting this year, Jo & I wanted to resume our monthly outing to a place outside of Bangalore and we’d decided to head to Sravanabelagola during the Republic Day weekend. Unfortunately couple of days before the trip, Jo fell ill and we had to cancel the trip and thus January month went by without a trip. Few days later, Abhilash mentioned that he was arranging for a ride to Melukote and since this was the week after Barcamp Bangalore, Jo & I signed up for the ride.
I was going through Google Photos' Rediscover This Day feature and realized that over the past couple of years, a lot of my trips seem to have happened around this time frame. 2016 This year I was at Goa for a weekend meet with Jo’s cousins Full gallery 2015 Last year, my family and I were at Belur and celebrated my sisters' birthday Full gallery 2014 We seemed to have done nothing in 2014, though I guess this was mainly because we had been to Goa with my folks in May.
Two years back, I bought(rather, Dad bought & leased it to me, I’m still repaying him :-D) the Maruti Suzuki Celerio. Why Celerio? I was looking at something within ₹6,00,000 - that meant the Ford Figo(which I bought, almost took delivery but had to cancel), the Swift etc were out of conisderation. Dad told me that a new car is coming and is quite within the budget and he was right.
Jo always wanted to pay a visit to Kushalnagar, Bylakuppe and surroundings and I always wanted to drive down that side, but thanks to our sheer laziness or something always coming up, Madikeri - Kushalnagar trip always remained a pipe dream. Last Thursday, we decided to bite the bullet and decided to go ahead with the trip. Although originally planned as a day trip, I felt that doing a trip till Madikeri, exploring nearby places and heading back wouldn’t be possible in a day(or if indeed possible, it would be incredibly tiring) and decided to split it across 2 days.
Few weeks ago, Jo & me went on a 11-day vacation from starting from Srinagar heading south-west bound towards Manali via Kargil, Leh, Nubra Valley and Jispa. During this 11-day visit, we had a blast, met bunch of great folks, visited some breathtaking places and ran into wee bit of trouble. And since it’s been awhile since I posted here, decided to do a travelogue. The Plan So, we booked a tour via A Lifetime Trip.
I’ve been a huge fan of redbus.in ever since I first used their site back in 2007. For someone as lazy as me, the idea that I could sit on my ass, check for all available tickets & book them at the comfort of my air-conditioned room was pretty awesome. Didn’t hurt that they had a very nice, clutter free UI. Off late, they have been sending these long-weekend emails.
Well, I’m heading back to Austin for a second stint. Had an amazing time the last time I was there - was there for almost a year. Learnt a lot - technically & otherwise. Unlike last time when I had a flight from Chennai to Mumbai and then a direct Mumbai to New Jersey flight ( with a Mumbai International Airport to boot) - this time, the flight will be from Chennai.
